Performance and Presence Specialist - UK

John is sought after by senior business leaders to equip them with the techniques and skills to be able to informally communicate, or present to a large audience, with greater impact.

John is particularly experienced in working on a one-to-one basis with senior leaders to develop presentation and communication skills in both public and internal business situations. His skills are firmly rooted in his award-winning work in broadcast television and theatre.

John’s coaching style is challenging, active and creative. He passionately believes in the power of experiential learning; clients can expect to try new vocal techniques to vary vocal pitch and pace, strategic breathing to place emphasis on key points and tips to engage an audience. He also provides support for answering hostile or difficult conversations. John’s aim is to create a supportive environment within which clients discover their hidden talents.

Coaching Experience

The range of John’s experience is both broad and eclectic, from directing the performance work of professional actors, singers and dancers, to improving the presentation skills of senior business leaders. He has worked in both the public and private sectors and with charities. He supports senior leaders in FTSE 100 companies, as well as MDs, FDs and senior managers in smaller organisations. In addition to running his own TV production company he worked for several years as the Creative Director for External Productions at Southampton Solent University, returning to teaching to create and run his own BA degree course in Performance.

After university and training in performance at LAMDA, one of the UK’s leading drama schools, John moved into theatre and television production. He initially worked in Production Management starting in the Drama department of the BBC. Concurrent creative work in theatre started at the Royal Court Theatre London, where his professional directing career began. This lead to a career of directing and producing work for stage and screen. John has directed Plays, Musicals and Operas with productions in the London Fringe, West End, Edinburgh Festival, and Europe. His broadcast television work for ITV attracted several international awards and he also produced programmes for the BBC, C4 and satellite broadcasters. In higher education he was involved in teaching as well as managing significant third-stream income projects. This ran alongside work in business coaching for companies and individuals.

“John helped challenge me to take more risks, play with the audience and be more expressive. I feel now I have more contact and intimacy with the audience while remaining true to myself.”
