A highly successful serial entrepreneur within the technology industry. George has been a partner, a sole proprietor and founder in VC and major PE-backed businesses. He has significant experience in start-ups, buy-ins, acquisitions and has made several successful exits in London, Mainland Europe, Hong Kong, Asia and the USA.

Career history

George graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce(Edinburgh University) in 1979 before joining Ford Dagenham as a graduate trainee in production management and then Motorola and Cable and Wireless as a data communications salesman.

George’s first ‘skin-in-the-game’ venture was in 1992. Since then, his ventures have been backed by VCs, 3i and The Carlyle Group.

His experience includes multiple successful exits:

  • Geoconference to Global Crossing
  • The City Meeting Group to MeetingZone
  • Eggplant to The Carlyle Group

Current Portfolio

George has been the founder of Eggplant since 2008, and continues to act as a Board member alongside a variety of business interests. Currently, his roles include advisor and NED to a number of small and medium-sized companies, as well as:

  • Chairman – CBI SME Council
  • Chairman – Finance Committee and Trustee, Kids in Museums
  • Director – Papple Steading, a heritage, community and business centre in East Lothian
  • Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Associate, Edinburgh University Business School
  • Member of the Implementation Steering Group for the BBRS (‘Fair Banking’)
