As a finance professional in a global investment business, Grant Speirs, CFO is a seasoned communicator. For more than two decades Grant has been making presentations, which he felt were somewhat formal. Grant wanted to raise his game, to initially benchmark his current performance and then develop a range of communication approaches which allowed him to flex for different audiences.
Immediately after the initial diagnostic session Grant had to make a major in-house presentation and unprompted, colleagues remarked on a significant improvement in Grant’s style, observing that he came across as both authoritative and yet relaxed.
“This approach perfectly matched what I was hoping to achieve and, even better, the actual sessions that I have completed so far have delivered on the promise. I know that I am by no means the complete article, however I have been given the tools that can help me get there and the rest is up to me.”
For more than two decades Grant had been making presentations, which while well-received, were by his own admission somewhat formal. And Grant admitted that preparing for and delivering results presentations wasn’t exactly a relaxing experience for him.
In order to support Grant to raise his game, his current performance was benchmarked and from this he used advice and a toolkit, provided by a range of specialist Aziz coaches, to develop a range of communication approaches depending on the audiences.
The Aziz Programme
Grant’s initial session was with Aziz Corporate Chairman and lead communication skills coach, Khalid Aziz, Khalid discussed with him the theory of effective communication and the communication traits of accomplished leaders. This ‘leadership communication’ approach gave Grant an insight into how he might improve his performance. He was also given tools to help him prepare more effectively and with a more efficient use of his time.
Khalid recommended a suite of modules, developing areas such as Voice, Influencing skills, Performance and Presence, Content and Structure, and 3D Pressure Management, designed to help reduce the stress involved in key communications.
Grant believes that the programme has resulted in:
- a polished, professional presentation delivery
- audience engagement and buy-in
- much greater confidence with less anxiety
- less time taken to prepare using the tools provided
Communication Skills Development
For over 30 years we have supported senior leaders, many in FTSE100 companies, to step up into new roles and achieve their career aspirations. As experts in their own industries, they turn their focus to polishing how they communicate as leaders. We offer a totally unique and holistic approach to communication coaching that has provided more consistently positive feedback than anything else we do. And what makes it so successful is that not only is each programme tailored to the needs of the individual, but we use experts in each area who are ‘Best in Class’ in what they do.
I wanted to take some of the stress out of preparing for both format and informal communications and to feel far more relaxed about the process.
This approach perfectly matched what I was hoping to achieve and, even better, the actual sessions that I have completed so far have delivered on the promise. I know that I am by no means the complete article, however I have been given the tools that can help me get there and the rest is up to me.
