Frequently Asked Questions

Can everyone become a stunning speaker?

In our experience the only limiting factors to becoming a stunning speaker are commitment, time, expert tutorial and practice. We have never had a failure; everyone improves. It is not however a quick fix. What we are asked to do is change often very deeply engrained behaviours and this inevitably takes time. However it can be done and hundreds of satisfied clients are testament to this.

How long does it take?

With individuals we recommend a programme of six or more half days spread over a period of 2 months or so. During that period of time you might be exposed to up to six different consultants looking at various aspects of your presentation style and ability. Many clients choose to have more sessions in specific areas; some are able to achieve great improvement in relatively few sessions. The important thing is that we tailor a solution to your precise needs. Initially a benchmarking half day helps us to assess your needs. As an alternative to one-to-one tutorials we offer group tutorials for four to six people. There are advantages and disadvantages to such tutorials. They are more cost effective and it is possible to ensure that a team "sings off the same hymn sheet". Also when a group has gone through a tutorial programme together they'll have the advantage of being able to help each other in the knowledge that they have a shared experience in this area. We recommend programmes of two or three days again spread over a couple of months for groups. Disadvantages are the potential embarrasment of "having one's trousers taken off" in front of colleagues and the sheer logistical difficulties of coordinating delegates diaries.

How much is a typical tutorial programme?

Typically, you will need to invest between £5,000-£15,000 for a tailored programme. We are happy to recommend a programme that fits your budget.

Is it better one-to-one or in a group session?

Clearly in one-to-one tutorials we are able to focus on your precise individual needs and to a certain extent this is compromised in groups. However, there are advantages (see above Q.2) to working in a group and it is possible in small groups (four is an ideal number) to achieve tremendous results. It is also possible in small groups to rehearse joint presentations where this is appropriate.

How can I be sure it's going to work for me?

To date we've never had a failure. We stand by our methodology and believe in it so much so that if you are at all unhappy we will provide you with an alternative solution or ultimately, your money back. As we've said to you above we bring to you a methodology that works and tutors dedicated to making you a success. To give you comfort we'll gladly put you in contact with someone who's already been through the process.

Is it difficult?

Most things are difficult until you know how to do them. Some people have more intrinsic ability in some areas than others. The majority of our clients find the methodology logical and easy to apply. The skill in any walk of life typically takes a lot longer to get on board but our tutors are well experienced in helping people overcome any difficulties they might have.

What about follow up?

As with any skill it's a question of "use it or lose it". We recommend a refresher session every six months. Many clients come to us more frequently than that for help with specific presentations. In that way we can iron out any bad habits that may have crept in and reinforce your confidence level.

Do you 'train the trainer?'

A key part of our methodology is that we tutor people to PhD level rather than first-degree level. This means that inevitably our work is all train the trainer. A great advantage within firms where a number of people have gone through The Aziz Methodology is that they are able to form a coaching and mentoring group within their organisation, which can greatly raise communications standards within the company. We will specifically tailor tutorials for those who wish to coach in-house.

Can you help me overcome my nerves?

Nervousness and lack of confidence are common factors that prevent many people from becoming excellent with their spoken communications. A key part of our methodology involves breathing and relaxation techniques designed to ensure that your voice and indeed your body does exactly what you want it to do and that all aspects are fully focused on creating a stunning presentation.

How soon will I see a difference?

Most clients gain a real insight into what their potential might be within the first few hours of their tutorial programme. We then build on this to incrementally improve your communication through confidence building.

How well established are you?

The Aziz Corporation was formed in 1983 and since then we have coached hundreds of senior managers and executives. Our client list is extensive and ranges from blue-chip companies to entrepreneurial start-ups, research councils to charities. We work with around one third of the FTSE-100, and a substantial number of the FTSE-250.

Who are your typical clients?

Typically we work with senior managers and executives, providing one-to-one coaching. We can offer group tutorials where appropriate.

I don't have time to do lots of half days how else can I achieve improvement?

We recommend a series of half days as experience shows this creates the best learning environment. However, some people for logistical reasons prefer to run things back to back, we can run the entire programme over a period of two to four days. This is of course highly intensive and requires dedication but can be effective.

What do you offer that other training companies do not?

Firstly we have our unique methodology that is the backbone of the way we operate. All of our consultants have to fulfill a number of key criteria including passing a written examination in our methodology. Our consultants also have to be discernable practitioners of the art and be themselves noted for being excellent communicators. We draw heavily from the world of the media and corporate life to ensure we have the brightest and the best amongst our consultants. Additionally, we stand by our training and methodology. The biggest cost in going through a programme of communication skills is your time. You want to get it right first time and that means ensuring that the tutorial you have is as valid as possible.
